Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) and Chris Watson (born in Paris). When she moved to Oxfordshire when she was five, Emma attended the Dragon School. Emma was six years old when she realized she wanted to pursue a career as an actress. She trained for several years in Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a Part-time theatre school located in Oxford where she studied acting as well as singing. At the age of 10, Emma had taken part in many Stagecoach plays and productions. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the movie version of J.K. Rowling's bestselling British novel began casting in 1999. Emma was discovered as a casting representative by her Oxford drama instructor. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone and Ron Weasley told Emma after 8 auditions, that she had been chosen for these characters. Emma was chosen to play alongside Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. Emma's debut on screen was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone's premiere in 2001. The film set records for beginning-day and weekend-opening sales and became the top-grossing movie of the year 2001. The critics were impressed by the movie and its performances. The Daily Telegraph praised Emma for her outstanding performance. Emma was awarded five nominations for her exceptional performance. In the end, she received the Young Artist Award in Leading Young Actress of an Film.
